Personification
Definition:
Personification, as it sounds it gives “person” or else human characteristics to any object that is not human.
Example:
The sunlight was sad,
for though it couldn’t smile.
He’s glimmer lights were ashes now,
and all he could do was shed golden tears.
Explanation: Of course the concept “sunlight” cannot cry and can’t be sad because it isn’t human and doesn’t gave feelings.
published Example:
Dinnertime Chorus by Sharon Hendricks
The teapot sang as the water boiled
The ice cubes cackled in their glass
the teacups chattered to one another.
While the chairs were passing gas
The gravy gurgled merrily
As the oil danced in a pan.
Oh my dinnertime chorus
What a lovely, lovely clan!
Explanation: Teapots cannot sing, ice cubes don’t cackle, neither the teacups talk to each other when the oil is dancing. This personifications create a vivid image to explain how dinner is happening in the kitchen.
